Privacy Policy

Effective October 15, 2026. SMVrater is operated by 9GG LLC, 30 N Gould St, Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA.

This policy covers the SMVrater website at smvrater.9gg.app and the SMVrater Android app (package app.ninegg.smvrater). Both talk to the same server and follow the same rules.

The short version

What we collect and keep

We do not ask for your name, date of birth, phone number, location, contacts or payment details.

Your photos

Before a photo leaves your device it is resized to at most 1280 pixels on its longest side and converted to JPEG. It is then sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it straight to an AI vision model so the model can write your evaluation. The photo is held in memory for the length of that request. We never write it to disk, and no person at 9GG LLC looks at it.

The model provider is Google (Gemini). If Google is unavailable, the request goes to Alibaba Cloud (Qwen) instead. Both are reached through OpenRouter, a routing service based in the United States. We send the photo and the scoring instructions only. We do not send your email, your account ID or your IP address with it.

Those providers process the photo under their own terms and privacy policies, and we do not control how long they keep request data. Do not upload a photo you would not be comfortable sending to them.

The written notes, strengths and suggestions in your result are sent to your device and are not stored by us. Only the score numbers are saved.

Your voice recordings

A voice recording is sent over an encrypted connection to our own server. Software on that server measures acoustic properties of the sound: pitch, resonance, smoothness, vocal fry, harshness and how much the pitch moves. The recording sits in a temporary file with a random name only while it is being measured, and that file is deleted as soon as the score is computed, including when scoring fails.

A read-aloud voice rating is not sent to any AI provider or other third party. It is not transcribed, and the words you say are not analyzed.

Your "in your own words" recordings

The "in your own words" analysis is a paid feature that works differently, because it scores what you say. You answer an open question aloud for 20 to 60 seconds. The recording is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to ElevenLabs, a speech-to-text provider, to be turned into text with word timings. We send the recording only. We do not send your email, your account ID or your IP address with it. ElevenLabs processes the recording under its own terms and privacy policy, and we do not control how long it keeps request data. Do not say anything in the recording that you would not be comfortable sending to them.

Software on our own server then counts filler words, hedging words, repeated words and long pauses in that text and measures your pace and vocabulary range. The same recording also gets the acoustic measurement described above. The text is sent to your device once so you can see your own words with the filler words marked. We do not write the text to disk and we do not keep it. Our temporary copy of the recording is deleted as soon as the scores are computed. We keep only the score numbers listed under Rating history.

Your questionnaire answers

The agreeableness questionnaire asks eleven multiple-choice questions about everyday situations and lets you name up to three restaurants you usually eat at, with your city or area. Your choices are scored by software on our own server. The restaurant names and the city are sent over an encrypted connection to an AI model provider (Google Gemini or Alibaba Qwen, reached through OpenRouter) for one purpose: estimating how expensive each place is. They are sent without your name, email or account identifier. We do not write your answers, the restaurant names or the city to disk. We keep only the resulting score numbers. Do not type anything into these fields that you would not want an outside provider to receive. You can leave the restaurant fields blank.

Face and voice data

SMVrater scores a photo and a recording. It does not identify you or anyone else. We do not create, store or share face templates, voiceprints or any other biometric identifier, and we do not match your face or voice against any database. The photo scoring instructions tell the model not to guess identity, name, ethnicity or health conditions.

We ask for your agreement on the screen every time, before a photo or a recording is sent. If you do not agree, do not submit it.

On your device

Website: one cookie named sid keeps you logged in for 30 days. It is strictly necessary, it is not readable by scripts, and it is not used for tracking. Cloudflare, which protects the site from attacks, may set its own short-lived security cookie. There are no analytics or advertising cookies.

Android app: your login token is kept in Android's encrypted Keystore-backed storage. The app keeps a temporary working copy of the photo you chose and of your recording in its private cache. The recording copy is deleted once it has been scored. The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software and does not read the advertising ID. The device permissions it uses are listed on the Permissions page.

How we use your data

We do not send marketing email today. If that changes, we will update this policy first, and every marketing email will carry an unsubscribe link.

We do not use your photos, recordings or scores to train AI models, and we do not use them for advertising.

Who receives data

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.

Score links you share

If you choose to share a result, the app gives you a link. The score numbers are written into the link itself, so anyone who has the link can see them. A photo score link shows the overall, face, body, style and photo quality scores. A voice score link shows the overall score and the rubric. A before-and-after voice link shows your previous overall voice score, the new one and the rubric. A link you share from the app also ends with your invite code, so that a friend who signs up through it counts as your invite. An agreeableness link shows the overall score and the four trait scores. A combined SMV link shows the combined score and the photo, voice and agreeableness scores it was built from. A link never contains your photo, your recording, your written notes, your questionnaire answers, the restaurants you named, your name or your email. The agreeableness profile is a separate score and is shown to nobody unless you share its link yourself.

Because the scores in a shared link are not stored with it on our server, a link cannot be recalled after you have sent it to someone. Share it only if you are comfortable with that.

How long we keep data

Deleting your data

Delete your account inside the app or on the website, using the Delete account control at the bottom of the main screen. Deletion removes your email, password hash and rating history from our live system right away. You can also ask by email, as described on the account deletion page.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to support+smvrater@9gg.app from the email address on your account. We answer within 30 days. We do not treat you differently for using these rights.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: we process your account data and rating history to perform our contract with you, your photo and voice recording on the basis of the consent you give on screen before each rating, and server logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. You can withdraw consent at any time by not submitting further photos or recordings and by deleting your account. You also have the right to object to or restrict processing, the right to data portability, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Ratings are produced automatically at your request. They have no legal effect on you.

California and other US states: the categories of personal information we collect are identifiers (email address, IP address), internet activity (server logs), and the audio and visual information you submit for scoring, which is not kept. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information for any purpose other than providing the rating you asked for.

Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries: the rights to see, correct and delete your data described above apply to you in full, and we collect your photo, recording and answers only with the consent you give on screen. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the privacy regulator where you live: the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom, the Data Protection Commission in Ireland, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.

Where data is processed

Our server is in the United States. The providers listed above operate in the United States and in other countries. If you use SMVrater from outside the United States, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States and those other countries, whose data protection laws may differ from the laws where you live.

Age

SMVrater is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. The photo scoring model is instructed to refuse any photo of a person who could be under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, write to support+smvrater@9gg.app and we will delete it.

Security

All connections are encrypted with TLS. Passwords are stored only as salted scrypt hashes. Account data sits on a server with restricted access. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that a breach will never happen. If one affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we change the effective date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
