A quick read on your speaking voice

Auditions, slates and voice-over reads start with your speaking voice. SMVrater scores a 20 second read for resonance, smoothness, tone, melody and vocal fry, and charts each rating so you can see the trend.

Score, practice, rescore

  1. Read a short passage aloud for 20 seconds. You get a 1 to 10 voice score and a score for each part of your voice.
  2. SMVrater picks the parts that hold your score back and builds a seven-day plan of short drills, about six minutes a day.
  3. Record again. A before-and-after card shows how far your score moved, and you can share it.

What it is and is not

It scores a spoken passage. It does not score singing, range or pitch accuracy against a melody. Use it as a repeatable check on your speaking tone between sessions with your teacher.

Questions

Can I upload a singing clip?

The rubric is built for speech. A sung clip will produce numbers, but they will not mean much. Read the passage in your speaking voice.

Which rubric should I pick?

Pick the male or female rubric that matches the voice you want to be measured against. You can use the other one on a later rating.

Do you keep my recording?

No. It is deleted as soon as it is scored.

Your recording is not kept

The recording is measured on our own server and deleted as soon as the score is computed. No person listens to it. Only the score numbers are saved, for your progress chart. The score is an automated measurement of how your voice sounds, not a judgment of you, and the drills are ordinary voice practice, not speech therapy or medical advice.
